Anchor & Shield

Our Relational Approach to Positive Behaviour Support

Anchor and Shield, is our bespoke, in-house training programme being developed internally to precisely meet the needs of our students and staff. Rooted in a relational and holistic philosophy, the programme prioritises psychological wellbeing and emotional support. We champion the principle of “connection before correction,” equipping our staff with the tools to effectively co-regulate with students, understand the feelings driving their behaviour, and meet their underlying emotional needs.

While staff are comprehensively trained in physical intervention, our core mindset is that any form of restraint is an absolute last resort, utilised solely to ensure safety when all other supportive measures have been exhausted. This training is deeply experiential, allowing staff to feel what it means to be held as well as to hold, fostering profound empathy and care. Our commitment is for all staff to become highly skilled, trauma-informed practitioners within their first year at Redbourn Park, sustaining and evolving these vital skills through regular advanced training and reflective practice.
